Shipibo Culture, Design & Impact

The Shipibo-Conibo are often recognized in the West for their use of medicinal plants during Amazonian retreats.

Yet their heritage reaches far wider, encompassing a sophisticated knowledge of biodiversity, community-centred wellbeing, distinctive culinary traditions, and a visual language of geometric Kené designs that has inspired architects and collectors alike.

By collaborating directly with Shipibo artisans, we digitize these cloth-woven patterns into museum-quality canvas wall art, honouring a culture whose creativity is as precise as it is enduring.

Inside this blog you’ll find impact stories, interior styling tips that marry ethical décor with modern spaces, and behind-the-loom features written with the women who co-create our collection.

Through our brand Auroriva, coffee and art become practical tools for cultural preservation and shared prosperity. Dive into the posts and let the insights, craft and quiet brilliance of Shipibo culture surprise you.

Meet the author

Years after volunteering at Pachamama Temple, where Maestro Luis Marquez Pinedo guided plant-based retreats deep in the Peruvian Amazon, Daniël van Meerendonk transitioned into the world of conscious branding and ethical marketing.

Rather than chasing aggressive sales tactics, Daniël sees himself as a translator, bridging the gap between commercial concepts and mindful consumers. Having stayed in close contact with Maestro Luis, he now supports the SPIRIT NII SHINAN initiative, where Luis and his family work to preserve and honour Shipibo culture through ancestral design.

Just as Daniël once translated retreat teachings from Spanish into English and Dutch, he now channels that same spirit into translating Shipibo values into accessible language and art forms for modern society. Creating space for deeper cultural connection.
